Your Quick Guide To Managing Ethics & Compliance

I’m doing some FY24-25 planning and would love your insights. What would be most helpful?

Before starting, who am I speaking to? The people charged with managing risk (compliance to sustainability) in mid-market organisations and SMEs. Mid-market is 500-3,000 employees and/or $ 100m- $1bn revenue. An SME would be 50-500 people and $50-$100m in revenue.

v3.0 OF THE RISK ASSESSMENT & IMPLEMENTATION PLATFORM

What: Various assessment questions and diagnostic tools. There’d also be resources (content, guides, etc.) to help with post-assessment implementation.

Why: The most common pain point I see is knowing where to start, but risk assessments remain (often) prohibitively expensive.

Who: Primarily mid-market and SMEs (“third-parties” of larger firms asked to provide details about how they manage risk and sustainability issues).

EXPANDING THE OUTSOURCED SOUNDING BOARD & SURGE CAPACITY

What: Continuation and formalisation of outsourced risk management and compliance support provided for mid-market/SMEs and investors in start/scale-ups and SMEs.

Why: Having someone on-call to support or help with questions and issues as demands ebb and flow is more straightforward than repeated RFPs for (often) unpredictable workflows.

Who: Boards of mid-market/SMEs, investors considering risks in multiple potential deals, solo or small-team in-house risk folks.

RISK MANAGEMENT & COMPLIANCE COMMUNITY

What: Some form of platform to share roses, buds, and thorns (things working well, ideas to crowdsource, and pain points).

Why: Most folks managing in-house risk do so in a void. They often face similar challenges in different organisations (especially governance and sustainability).

Who: Small in-house teams, solo contributors, people managing risk as part of another role (i.e., the typical mid-market and SME mix).
